Being able to supplement my income via the rideshare app is vital to my family's survivability

I am a commercial real estate agent as COVID19 stormed the US and cities instituted a stay at home policy commercial office buildings suffered tremendously. And so did I. I could not farm or close any real estate transactions. Therefore being able to supplement my income via the rideshare app is vital to my family's survivability.

I am a mother of 3 boys. It's always been so hard to find a job that can give me the flexibility I need...Working for Instacart has truly been a blessing! I went to DoorDash as I saw how convenient it was to be able to choose my own schedule

Both of my parents work to help pay for my college education and rent. Therefore, I was looking for a way to pay for those expenses, however, I had to deal with the scarcity of time. That is when I went to DoorDash as I saw how convenient it was to be able to choose my own schedule. Like that I have been able to take some of that financial burden off my parents' shoulders without facing the dilemma of work or school.

I am able to ride with passengers who direly need to reach their destinations especially during current times

I am grateful to be a part of Lyft rideshare community especially in my local area Alameda/Oakland/Berkeley where I am able to ride with passengers who direly need to reach their destinations especially during current times where necessity is a priority. I am a part-time student seeking an MA degree in Science Engineering and Lyft provides the opportunity for me to have a reasonable schedule set accordingly with my course time frame and location as well as any unforeseen changes that often take place throughout the semester. Lyft further allows me to have an income that covers much of the day to day expenses including home expenses and personal necessities. It provides a fair income that matches my hours worked and the flexibility I need to proceed with my education. Being able to be flexible in my hours has allowed me to give my family the much needed time that they deserve

Hello, my name is Julian and I have been driving rideshare since September of 2018. I was hurt on the job then retired because of my injury. I am so thankful for being able to not just earn money to help my family but I also get to interact with so many of our Southern California residents. I also believe that being able to be flexible in my hours has allowed me to give my family the much needed time that they deserve along with being able to help the community get to their places they need to be. It is a great feeling knowing that people depend on me to get them to their appointments. I also believe that because of the flexibility of working hours that rideshare has saved lives. It also helps the economy because people are not afraid of enjoying an evening out knowing they have a reliable way that is cost-effective that can get them home safe and sound.

I've been a part-time driver for Lyft for a little over a year and I enjoy it because of the flexibility of the hours you drive (being your own boss). Every day, when I'm ready to help people get around it makes me very happy. I have grandkids and my daughter often calls for help with her 3 kids. My wife owns a business and since we aren't young any longer she needs help once in a while. To keep myself strong and healthy I have to exercise, and a certain routine takes time. Most importantly I have to support myself and my lifestyle and ride share gives me that opportunity to do so. It gives me a chance to work when I can do it and for as long as I can do it. I don't have a manager, my passenger is my boss. I don't have to clock in or out. I love my contractor status and my independent self reliance. Thank you Uber and Lyft for giving me that opportunity.

These apps actually were a blessing in disguise

So I moved out to California about a year ago and was looking for a way to earn extra cash. I looked into DoorDash and Postmates and saw that they were paying really good so I decided to get involved. We're getting involved at first I was making roughly $100 every two days because I was unfamiliar with the area. As months went by I was able to get a part-time job and meet people which allowed me to get out there and explore. Well getting this part-time job and exploring I was able to unlock new areas in California that allowed me to make an excess amount of money when using these app. If it was not for Postmates or DoorDash honestly I don't think I would still be able to say I'm doing good right now. These apps actually were a blessing in disguise and I don't think I would have ever found that out if I hadn't tried them. They've shown me new areas, I met wonderful people while doing deliveries and more importantly kept me secured.

We love the flexibility of driving

I drive for Lyft for extra money because I don’t make enough money on Social Security. There is no way I would be able to make my car payment or pay for my car insurance and pay all my bills every month without driving for Lyft. I choose to drive for Lyft because of the flexibility and it’s great. And I have kids in school that need my attention so flexibility is number one to me where I can drive when I need to. Without this income, I’d be forced to relocate

The flexible hours allow me to earn extra income around my full-time job that does not offer flexible scheduling. I live in one of the most expensive regions in the country and I’m raising 2 kids whose mother doesn’t earn a lot. So, having this driving job with my own scheduling has been crucial to maintaining our already meager lifestyle. Without this income, I’d be forced to relocate away from family and friends. The flexibility allows me the time to spend with my kids, to pick up and drop off at school or take care of them if they become ill. This would be more difficult with a fixed schedule.

I love being an independent contractor because my success is based on my motivation

I was working at a fast-food restaurant for $10/hr and trying to take classes at the same time. I could never get more than 34 hours a week and work would clash with my class schedule. I gave up on school just to make the bare minimum needed to survive. I decided to try Lyft because I heard there were flexibility and no limit to how many hours you could work. I’ve now been driving for 16 months. I average $27-30 an hour and have been able to go back to school! Keeping this flexibility is so important. I love the work and enjoy the flexibility

I chose to be a Lyft and Uber driver because of its flexibility to work when I was available to work. My mother had metastatic breast cancer and was critically ill for nine months before she passed away in March 2019. I needed a job that was flexible so I could care for my mother and still be able to work and pay my bills. I needed to be able to log off when she had doctor appointments, had to go to the ER, or when she needed her scheduled treatments. Most workplaces would frown on someone needing to leave so often to go care for a sick and dying loved one. As a driver, I chose the hours I was available and was able to give 100% when I was free and able. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to have been able to care for my mother and still be able to pay my bills while working as a driver. There are a lot of people in this world who are dealing with similar situations and need jobs that are flexible. Even though my mom has passed I still choose to be a driver because I love the work and enjoy the flexibility. I meet so many interesting people every day and they need us out there. Riders are grateful for their drivers!!!!

I really need this flexible job to meet my intense college coursework and my daily spending

Doing Uber is a flexible job that can fit in my busy class schedule. If Uber is no longer flexible, It'll be very hard to find another job that fits with schedule of my college coursework and I probably wont make enough money to support my daily expenses. The flexibility to choose how you spend your time is so valuable

I took a leave of absence from my job to care for my mother who was in hospice over 2 years ago. When she passed, I attempted to return to my career/work, but I was relieved of my position. While on my leave of absence, the organization went through a restructuring and my position was eliminated. I thought to myself, I'd be back to work in no time, however, 18 months later I find myself still going on interviews. My unemployment has run out and driving for Lyft for the last 8 months has helped pay my bills. Flexibility is so important to me since I am still going to interviews. The flexibility to drive when I am available allows me to continue my job search and attend the scheduled interviews I sometimes do not have the opportunity to schedule but are scheduled for me. Another reason flexibility is important to me is, more recently, my car was in the shop for two weeks. Flexibility allows me to drive and make up hours/money I missed out due to unforeseen circumstances. Additionally, I can help my family members during their time of need and choose my own driving time around important family events. Seeing my mom in her last days and seeing her take her last breath, was a profound reminder that time is irreplaceable. As a Lyft driver, the flexibility to choose how you spend your time is so valuable.

I started driving as a way to supplement my income

I began driving a little over 3 years ago while caring for my grandfather at home whom was completely paralyzed. We pulled him out of the Nursing home due to lack of care. I resigned from my job in AZ as a MA & moved to CA to be support to me & my grandmother. I started driving as a way to supplement my income as I worked a limited amount of hours through the county caring for my ill grandfather. I now am working full time, I started full time last year. I am currently a full time student as well working on my generals/ prerequisites to get into the Nursing program. I plan on continuing to drive for Uber while I'm in school. The flexibility is the best

I moved to California 20 years ago with my young child, fleeing an abusive spouse. As a single mom I have had to work hard just to provide for us. I am proud to say I never took a penny from my now ex, nor a penny from anyone that I didn’t earn. I worked long hours, two jobs at a time for years. When my second job ended three years ago after the company was closed, I turned to Uber. I love driving, love helping people, and I can work around my hectic day job. I am a forensic accountant by day, which can be very stressful. Driving relaxes me and lets me see more of San Diego than I would see otherwise. The flexibility is the best. I work around my schedule, around my family’s schedule....and I can stay true to my code. I am a safe driver. The moment I start feeling tired, I am offline - done for the night! I can drive after work for a few hours or I can drive 8 hours on a Saturday. My choice. I don’t need another 9-5 type of job, I need a part-time job that helps me pay all of my bills and buy groceries too!

Flexibility of it allows me to spend time with my husband

Hello and thank you for letting me share my story I started driving three years ago. And still, enjoy it very much so reason being the flexibility of it allows me to spend time with my husband who is in law enforcement and has a very rigorous schedule. I was in ministry for several years 20 to be exact and now that I’m not doing that anymore, I am enjoying driving. I love meeting new people, being helpful and providing a safe ridesharing experience for women. Driving for Uber changed my life as far as being able to work and help people

As an Uber driver this was the best decision I ever made. Driving for Uber changed my life as far as being able to work and help people to get to their jobs early in the morning or help them get to a doctor's appointment. I even help people with Uber assist taking people home or to an appointment with special needs and they feel so grateful that I can help them with their wheelchair or assist them with care when they can barely move. This is so much appreciated by my riders that need assistance. Also, when riders were going to the airport daily they were grateful for being able to find an Uber driver so early in the morning because I started to drive almost every morning at 5:00am and almost every morning someone needed a ride to the airport.

I drive them to medical appointments during the day, along with doing the grocery shopping and other things around the house. I drive in the evenings when they go to bed so I can keep some money in my pocket. App-based driving works with my schedule.

The flexibility is very important to me

I began driving for Lyft for a number of reasons. Yes, the flexibility is very important to me because of my 13 year old son but also because I have health issues that restrict how long I can stand or sit, so being able to stop when I need to is what makes ridesharing so perfect for me. My very favorite part about driving is getting to meet so many different people and knowing that I'm getting people home safely. I also have a 25-year-old daughter so it makes me feel so good that I offer a safe, comfortable ride to young women working late. That's really important to me because I worry about my own daughter, so knowing that I'm getting someone else's daughter home safely makes me feel good. At this stage of my life, with the health issues I have, there's no other job that would be so flexible or understanding of my physical limitations.

The flexibility allows me to give my mom time to do her errands

I moved to a new area to be closer to my parents to help my mom with my father’s care (he has late-stage dementia)…When I was unable to find any work in my field and realized I would have to completely start over, this became a lifeline for me and still is. The flexibility allows me to give my mom time to do her errands, doctor appts. etc. during the day or just have some "downtime" for herself. With unemployment running out and no means of assistance, I'm still looking for full-time work and still driving! I thank God this is available for people like me to keep their heads above water until an opportunity is available.

I hope I will always have the flexibility that I have has a driver

I have a full-time job but I am the sole caretaker of my mother who is 85 years old. For me working as a driver for Lyft/Uber, with flexible hours, was the ideal part-time job I could never find. I hope I will always have the flexibility that I have has a driver.

I am able to work what I want to or need to, and choose to not drive when I can't

I started driving when my full-time job became a part-time position. At the same time, my daughter was diagnosed with autism and required additional assistance. App-based driving provided the stability for me to earn an income with both jobs while still working around my daughter's scheduling needs. As an independent contractor, I am able to work what I want to or need to, and choose to not drive when I can't. If we lose the independent contractor flexibility, I would lose my driving part-time income, as I could not work a set schedule around my family's needs and my primary day job which would mean I'd have to support my family of four on a minimum wage, part-time income. And that is why I support the initiative to protect app-based drivers and services.

I love the flexibility of being an independent contractor

Hi my name is Raekisha and I’m a food delivery driver. I started driving part-time for extra income. I have an autistic teen daughter who works in modeling and acting. I have to chaperone her on set because she is a minor, so when she books a job, which is sometimes far in between, I work to make money for bills, food and rent. The cost of living is very high where I live. I love the flexibility of being an independent contractor because it allows me to care of my daughter and her special needs while making extra money needed to keep a roof over our heads and food in our bellies. I'm grateful for the freedom to work around my secondary schedule. Without this extra income, I could possibly lose my apartment. Thank you for listening to my story.

Being an independent contractor is the best thing

I am a single parent to a wonderful pre-teen. I am also in school during the day so being able to drive on my time works for me. I can go to school during the day, attend my daughter’s activities after she gets out of school. Then in the evenings, I can drive for a couple of hours and on the weekend take my daughter to her grandmother, and drive most of the day. Me being an independent contractor is the best thing that could have happened.

I was deemed 100% working disabled through the VA

I was deemed 100% working disabled through the VA due to service-connected issues. Without the gig economy, I would be forced to draw further assistance from state-funded programs for the disabled. Being a veteran of foreign wars and a believer in what it means to be a citizen, I want to do anything to avoid that. Lyft and Uber primarily allow me to interact and communicate with people daily, talking about life, lending a friendly hear and problems they are having. These apps have allowed me to follow my passion, and I'm good at it. Anything I can do to help, I'm in.

I started driving in order to support the military

Why do you drive? I started driving in order to support the military, as a contractor I had base access, and it's difficult for some of the young people who are stationed in Southern California without vehicles to get on and off the bases. So, in order to supplement public transportation, I started driving for Lyft. I have a full-time job, and I'm not always alert enough after work to drive Lyft, so I appreciate the flexibility based on whether I feel like I can drive for a few hours or not.

Driving now gives me so many ways to help people

I was stuck in retail sales for many years - it was the only line of work I could get at a time when my family needed money to make ends-meet. My wife died in 2009 and retail no longer paid the bills adequately. It has changed my life

I drive because my commute is 75 miles one way. Shortly after buying my house gas prices went up to $1 plus. I realized very quickly I was going to be homeless if I didn’t do something so I began driving for Uber. I made $1400 in my first week. That money allowed me to make my next house payment before going 30 days past due. It has taken me a year but I have managed to get back on track and pay off some credit cards while contributing to my 401k at work. It has changed my life.

I'm no longer able to work in a structured environment

I'm a 100% disabled Marine Corps veteran, and because of my disability, I'm no longer able to work in a structured environment. The few hours a week that I do ridesharing helps to connect me to my community and gives me extra money to help make ends meet and to spend on my granddaughter. The only reason that I am able to do this is that the ridesharing platform allows me to work when I am able to, and doesn’t require that I adhere to a schedule. After being diagnosed with two different cancers on the same day, my job would not change the schedule to allow me to go to my daily cancer treatments. They pressured me to quit. It has given me the flexibility to work all week to cover living expenses

I have been retired for seven years...I started rideshare driving a little over two years ago. It has given me the flexibility to try out living in a city where one son lives, and then easily change to driving in a different city where my other son lives. It has given me the flexibility to work all week to cover living expenses when I was living on my own, and then easily transition to working mostly weekends when I moved into a sons' household and started doing granddaddy daycare. Throughout these two years, it has also given me the flexibility to stop rideshare driving entirely for a month or more to drive to another state to visit family and friends. I'm concerned that the same flexibility will not be available if Lyft has to treat me as a part-time employee.

If taken flexibility away, you're taking my hard work and progress I made while driving Lyft

I drive Lyft because it helps me with my anxiety and depression. If taken flexibility away, you're taking my hard work and progress I made while driving Lyft. The reason I started ride-share is because I always cope up in my room isolation. I started going into therapy and was suggested to work on my social skills what a better way than to drive with Lyft. It has really helped me with my social skills and my anxiety. I work as a full time security officer Monday-Friday and it sometimes could be overwhelming and if it's one of those days where I feel like I'm about to have anxiety I just turn on my Lyft app and start driving and forget why I was having an anxiety attack in the first place. Seriously by you taking this flexibility your hurting other drivers as well. I know a couple of drivers who I have met during my Lyft drives some of them helps them with having time with education or family. In my case I'm telling people who have the same problem as me to start driving and it will help them. I mean look at my ratings and my comments that should tell you how great of a driver I am.

I thank God for Lyft and the flexibility it gives me to drive when I can

I am 80 years old and live on my Social Security ONLY!! My children have moved to different states because they couldn't afford to live in California. I have 12 grandchildren. I thank God for Lyft and the flexibility it gives me to drive when I can. I don't feel well enough to drive every day, some days I don't start driving till the afternoon. I am a full-time nursing student, as a nursing student there's not much time for myself, staying on top of my studying, going to my classes and doing my clinical rotations at the hospital take most of my time. With most of my time invested in my career there is not enough time for me to find a stable job that will accept my schedule. With the flexibility that some app-based rideshares and delivery providers, I am able to work whenever I have an open slot in my schedule. Flexibility is important to me because it is the perfect way to be able to work on my own time without compromising my studies and/or my future.

The flexibility that it offers allowed me to study and juggle other things without hindering my income

Doing rideshare has helped open the door for me for starting my own business. The flexibility that it offers allowed me to study and juggle other things without hindering my income. I was overworking...rideshare was the best and low cost way for me to get into business by allowing me to control my income with my efforts and strategic mindset of a businessman. I can't appreciate enough that rideshare exists. Has helped me meet so many awesome people in my city and exploring the city. Life has been so good when I can leave my 9-5 job. For that I appreciate rideshare business.

I love the much needed flexibility

Hello, I love the much-needed flexibility because right now I'm homeschooling my 14 yr old child that is severely autistic and waiting for school placement which takes a long time. I work in the dental field for 20 years and still do on Saturdays only and I also drive special needs kids completing over 3,000 rides in 3 years. I also drive adults (Lyft) because I enjoy socializing and helping others get a safe and reliable ride. I've made everlasting connections with some passengers and have friends now and I enjoy driving because I can drive on my own time since I take care of 3 teenage boys. Please help us! Thank you

Lyft is the only work that allows me the flexibility I need to be a mother

I'm a single mother with a neuromuscular disability and chronic migraines. Lyft is the only work that allows me the flexibility I need to be a mother, take care of myself, and get an education to facilitate someday owning a business I can work from home. Without Lyft and the flexibility to choose my own hours I would be forced to be on disability. I want to be productive and by driving Lyft I can!

I like the flexibility due to my schedule

I like the flexibility due to my schedule as a married woman with a disabled husband. It's very important to me because I can choose the days I can work or hours. I currently have a full-time job from 8 am to 5 pm Monday- Friday. I do Lyft in the evenings or on the weekends. I started this because I am currently struggling financially, I can not work another job because I would be away from home and won't have time to spend with my children. I have 5 kids and my husband got injured in his job. Sometimes I didn't have money for food for our family and since I joined Lyft it has helped me by bringing extra money to support my family at least with food. Since I joined Lyft as part-time it has really helped me in many ways.

Due to the flexibility of driving rideshare I was able to leave my career to take care of my uncle

A couple of years ago my uncle was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I was at a loss as to what to do. I had a lucrative career but knew I needed to take care of the family but I also still had bills to pay. Due to the flexibility of driving rideshare I was able to leave my career to take care of my uncle in his last 6 months of life as well as take over care of my 90+ year old grandfather (my uncle was caring for him previously). I also have a teenage daughter so rideshare has allowed me to take care of family first. I have since built another business and drive rideshare very part-time now. I'd hate to see others lose these opportunities because of the new law.

This is a perfect job with the open schedule...and hope it doesn't change

I drive to help support our family. I am semi-retired and this extra income helps us to make it in the San Francisco high rent areas. I pick up my daughter 5 days a week at 3:30 and take her to school Wednesday and Friday at 11:30. I can do this because of the flexible schedule. I could not work if I had to be available at the above times. This is a perfect job with the open schedule...and hope it doesn't change. This is my only extra income. I do not work any other jobs. Flexibility is so important to me

After I lost my full-time employment as a Clinical Research Coordinator, back in January of 2018, I started driving with Lyft, and immediately loved the flexibility that being a App-Based Driver was. I started earning more money than my previous full-time job and the most important thing to me was that I had to spend a lot more quality time with my family. Flexibility is so important to me because I am able to choose my own schedule, work when I want and as long as I want, and earn as much as I want. Also, I love being my own boss, so please keep it that way!!!

I can work when I have time, whenever or wherever I want

When gig economy jobs became available, I had been waiting for something like that for a long time. My work ethic is strong, but I don't fit into the 9-5 box. I started my own consultation business 5 years ago so that I could have flexible work hours because that's the way I'm happy working. However, owning your own business, sometimes income is lean. Last summer, my husband was laid off and I lost a major client all at once. My husband decided to take the opportunity to switch careers, however, he needed to take several months to go through training in order to do so. Having a typical job would not allow him enough flexibility to also go through training quickly, nor is it very easy to even get an interview, much less get hired somewhere right away. Believe me, he's been putting in applications every week, with zero response. So, as soon as he got laid off, I signed up for DoorDash. This was something that was easy to start (I started working and making money the day of my orientation), no need to sit around hoping I'd get a call for an interview. I can work when I have time, whenever or wherever I want. This has been a major saving grace that's allowed us to keep our home and pay bills while my husband is training. Unemployment wasn't cutting it.

My part-time job as a driver is equal to a full-time job pay

Hi my name is Linda, I’m retired and I like the flexibility driving and my part-time job as a driver is equal to a full-time job pay it’s very important to me that I keep working because I have bills and responsibilities and someday would like to retire without having to drive. I’m 68 years old and I have a couple of years left at least young at heart. Flexibility driving Lyft around my other work is extremely important

I started out almost 4 1/2 years ago part-time to supplement my income from another slowly developing job opportunity that although it didn't work out; there are other occasionally occurring ("on-call") income-earning activities that require me to be flexible in my schedule so that flexibility driving Lyft around my other work is extremely important. I am so appreciative and it is so essential for me to be able to drive when and where I can to fit around my other activities, that it would be impossible to continue driving Lyft if that were to change. This could create a financial disaster for me and my wife, as we are seniors on a very limited income!

I recently relocated to San Diego, CA and was surprised to hear about this selfish and greedy law. I use Uber and Lyft to help support the high costs of living here. It's important for everyone to know how important it is that is drivers are able to have flexible hours

Hello my name is Kathy, I am sharing my story because it's important for everyone to know how important it is that is drivers are able to have flexible hours. I am married and have a son that's still at home. My husband is unable to work because he has had 20 surgeries in the last 5 years. I am his main caretaker so I can only drive when I have someone that's able to be at home. I also have my own health issue, that limits me from working a full-time job. That's why it's so important to me to have flexibility in my driving schedule. I'm trying to provide for my family, if we are made to have a daily schedule, I will have to quit driving for Lyft.

Flexibility is important to me because sometimes I would like to spend time with my loved ones

I am a mother of three children and I work to support them. Flexibility is important to me because sometimes I would like to spend time with my loved ones. Most times I’m not entirely sure when I can and when I can’t work. I would only take time off work if I’m sick or I’m spending time with my family. I would not stay at home knowing that I can be working and supporting my children. I would be supporting my kids and doing what I love at the same time. Driving has always been something I love, especially long drives. Something about driving makes me calm and boosts my mood. Don’t let them take away our freedom to earn a living on our own terms

My name is Shannon and as a disabled veteran I had a very difficult time sitting behind a desk staring at a computer screen all day. I had to quit my last job because it was literally driving me crazy being stuck in a cubicle all day. I was having a very hard time finding a job that didn’t require me to be inside all day or required a degree for the same level of work I was previously doing without a degree. So, I started driving Lyft, Uber and Uber Eats. I finally found a great way to make money and give me the flexibility to be home for my wife who suffers from Lupus and Fibromyalgia. Now I worry that this new law will change all that. Therefore, I support the Protect App-Based Drivers & Services Act. It would protect our right to choose when, where and how we work. Don’t let them take away our freedom to earn a living on our own terms. Please support other drivers and service providers like yourself and vote to change the new law. Hope to see you out there! The flexibility of app-based driving allows me to study

I drive for Uber Eats and deliver food to happy customers. The schedule flexibility of Uber Eats allows me to pursue job earnings on the side as well, eg., other work-at-home job opportunities. Also, the flexibility of app-based driving allows me to study for my lab certification when I am not delivering food. Any new law that forces me into a rigid schedule would highly restrict the things I want to accomplish when I am not delivering for Uber Eats. Please do the right thing and vote in support of driver flexibility as it pertains to app-based driving.

Rideshare driving permits me to set my schedule based on medical needs

Several medical, non-contagious issues I have mean I should not continue to do my previous types of employment. I am 64 years old and need to be 66 years 3 months old to collect optimum Social Security Benefits. Rideshare driving permits me to set my schedule based on medical needs as well as my other scheduled events, being a fly fisher/photographer/traveler/author/activist, as well as providing an income sufficient to my needs. I have been able to be much more involved in the above-mentioned activities I would not have been being an "employee". Changing my classification and setting my schedule by others would force me to look for another option, of which I believe there are very few. I really enjoy my interactions with most of my passengers in which we share thoughts and experiences that may help each other in ways we will discover later. Many of my passengers have thanked me in length for my insights. I also have the freedom to choose where I drive to seek passengers and make a point to "serve" areas others do not as they seek to optimize their income, where I seek to also create other markets by being available possibly "donating' time. Many passengers are interested in my life's experiences, many of which have very little of their own and say they are encouraged to seek more by my sharing. I suspect changing this situation for me would lose me and others similar to me, losing an attitude positive to the needs of the passengers. It most likely will result in longer wait times and larger fees for the service which would be detrimental to some with limited resources. It likely will adversely affect the good done relating to DUIs.

I love to drive

I'm a full-time realtor in Northern California. Real Estate has been a full-time job for me for the last 15 years but it is still a commission-based job so if there are no sales there's no income. Now with rideshare I have the ability to drive at night at my leisure to make money at my own pace which is helping keep a roof over my head and food on my table. Without the ability to drive on my own schedule I would have to rely on my children for financial support. I love to drive and I love helping people and ride-sharing gives me the ability to help my fellow and to make money at the same time. It's a win-win as far as I'm concerned.

The flexibility allows me to work when I feel well

I am a disabled senior, 3 time cancer survivor, suffer from severe arthritis in my spine, hips and thumbs. Because I became disabled I was not able to retire as I had hoped so I lived from Social Security which in the best conditions isn't enough...I have no choice because SS does not pay me enough to thrive, buy quality food, etc. Since I am covered with scars from 9 major surgeries in 8 years I have a great deal of pain some of the time, sometimes I am exhausted when the pain won't let me sleep, and I sometimes have an upset stomach from the medication I take. Obviously, I cannot work when I am in this state. Driving is something I can do….The flexibility allows me to work when I feel well. I can drive. Flexibility allows me to work when I feel well therefore not endangering anyone on the road.

The money and freedom helps in so many ways

A lot of people have reasons that the work schedule for share rides works for them, so do I. I tired after 25 years of working for the County, I was faithful rarely missing a day of work, I do have a BA degree in business. I worked a lot of overtime whenever it was offered. I knew I would be starting another career, however life changes. I became a full-time caregiver for my mother and older disabled brother, after leaving my job. My mom passed a year and a half ago, and I had not worked in over 10 years while caring for them. Being over 60 years of age, now, I had to weigh what type of work I could and would do. I was a little afraid at first dealing with people that I did not know and going places that I had never been before, but now see it as a journey. I also have other things that I am working on, the money and freedom helps in so many ways.

To help make extra income

Hello, everyone! I just retired 4 months ago with a great company of 32 years. So since my family and I still live in the Bay Area, I decided to work independently for DoorDash and to help make extra income to provide for other costs in this high cost of living…That's awesome to have these companies see how important it is for us to have quality time with family and at the same time to allow us to work with them around their schedule.

I look forward to driving every day, every morning

Being a 61-year-old pastor, I look forward to driving every day, every morning, when I can to help others with there walks with God. If I can help others make it safely to their destination, start their day, finish their day with a smile I’m happy. Together with my social security and Lyft I can live in California and exist. I’m very happy to be a Lyft driver.

Flexible autonomy is PERFECT for me

I have a full-time job, but as a divorced father co-parenting a teenager, a secondary source of income with a flexible autonomy is PERFECT for me, that's one of several reasons I enjoy driving for Lyft. I love being able to drive whenever I choose and earn some good income which really makes a huge impact in my life- without it, I am not sure what my next best option would be. I hope to always be able to have the flexibility that I have always enjoyed as a driver.

My flexibility is literally saving her life

I have been driving on the Uber platform for the last 11 months, with over 3,500 rides completed. I started because my manufacturing contracting position of 16 years got outsourced basically overnight. Additionally, my wife has been battling cancer for the last 4 years. My flexibility to work whenever I can and want allows me to drive her to her treatments and take care of her. I truly feel that my flexibility is literally saving her life.

Flexibility it provided allowed me to pay my bills

I am retired and my pension when I turned 66 went down almost $400! I am physically disabled and some days I am in too much pain to drive. Uber/Lyft and the flexibility it provided allowed me to pay my bills, have some pocket money but most importantly it gave me the flexibility to take the needed breaks when the pain becomes too much and to also let me still feel retired enough to travel or babysit my granddaughter.

The flexibility, earnings, and the overall experience has been great

I have been driving since March 2018, for 12 years I worked for a car service. I found myself out of work and 62 wondering what to do next. Then someone suggested I try Uber, it has been a great experience, the flexibility, earnings, and the overall experience has been great! To drive when you want I could not imagine I would find this privilege in working on a structured job with a minimum wage. And now, as I move forward, with all that has come with being independent the need to continue being so. With all the expenses that I have to deal with now, it is very important to me to continue, since I would not be able to survive! I am hoping that a solution to allow app-based rideshare will continue now and into the future.

This allows me the flexibility to work when I want

I drive and shop full time as the sole support for my family of four. My husband used to be the sole support but is unable to work due to being permanently disabled. This allows me the flexibility to work when I want so I can be home to help my husband with the children when I need to be. I started doing the app-based gig as a way to supplement my income and turned out to be more lucrative than my other job so I started doing it full time. If I could find a career in my chosen field of work as flexible as this I would switch back to my normal line of work. I love the freedom this job affords me and my family!

I have a very unpredictable schedule

I'm an actor, which means I have a very unpredictable schedule. I could get an audition with only 1 or 2 hours' notice, and I have to have open availability. Most employers don't allow employees to take off without advanced notice. Lyft has been the only company that has allowed me to pursue my dreams while keeping my bills paid. A set schedule just doesn't work for my lifestyle. I know there are thousands, if not millions of people in my position.

Finally after years of being far from my family and home I've decided to be closer. Ridesharing apps made it possible for me to do so. I totally support keeping app-based drivers independent contractors

When I retired three and a half years ago, I knew that I would have to stay active for retirement to be successful. Although it was great being retired, I felt like there was a part of me that missed working so I looked into part-time jobs, something to make a little extra money. But part-time work meant showing up at a certain time and I just wasn't ready for that again. Then I looked into the app-based food delivery service. It turned out to be a great financial boost with flexible working hours. I prefer not having to drive after dark so I work mainly lunch shifts. It's keeping me active at age 70, but when there are days that I don't feel like working, I don't have to. I totally support keeping app-based drivers independent contractors, able to work only when they desire to.

I love making my own schedule. I love being my own boss. I love that I have my own small business. I drive on my way into work, on my way home from work in the middle of the night, on a Sunday afternoon when my team starts losing, when I want to make some extra cash for a special purchase, and when I just need to "get out of the house for a little bit." But my schedule is ALWAYS on my terms. What other jobs can offer all these things? None. Only the app-based ride-share and delivery gig industry.

Driving for Uber is really great

I drive because it gives me the freedom to be my own boss. I love the flexibility it gives me. My wife works the night shift at a local hospital and my kids have school, music classes, church activities, and other daily things, doing all with one car, so driving for Uber is really great! Since I don't have a set schedule, flexibility is extremely important to help support my family. I started driving to help get extra cash for my music studio.

Flexibility is far more important

I'm retired. Fifteen months ago I was looking for some part-time work, to fill in a few hours each week and to bring in a little extra money. Rideshare seemed like the perfect part-time job. I did not want a regular part-time job where my days/hours and tasks would be scheduled. The scheduling flexibility allowed by rideshare is perfect for me. I work exactly when I want to work and not when I don't want to. The money is nice, but the flexibility is far more important.

Being flexible is the key

I am a mom who was struggling to make ends meet. I loved my job but it was not making what I needed. I needed a new career. I wanted to go back to school but knew I would not be able to work and continue my education. Then rideshare popped in my head. My hours would be my own, and I would not have to stick to a work schedule. What if I just wanted to do 6 hours a day, what job agrees to that? With rideshare, I work what hours I wanted and make enough to pay the bills while in school, it being flexible is the key.

The one job that I can do that has absolute flexibility

I drive for Uber because it's the one job that I can do that has absolute flexibility of a schedule that I require. I have several other commitments to family members that can't drive or on occasion have problems driving, along with helping friends and associates with transportation requirements. On a personal note, I require a flexible schedule because I have asthma and arthritis. The asthma greatly limits the jobs that I can do, and the arthritis prevents other jobs that require constant standing or sitting. I need a job that I can sit or stand when I want to prevent pain. With driving for uber I can work when I want, stop when I want and also take care of my commitments. Any other job that works around a set schedule or doesn't allow me to work or rest as needed would ruin me or potentially increase my health problems.

My husband was let go from his job suddenly 2 years ago. As the emergency fund was drying up and we were both unsuccessful in gaining full time work, we turned to Doordash. My heart is full of gratitude that all the jobs I applied for did not hire me. The flexibility I have is the freedom that I need as a wife and mom. The independence and the freedom from driving has been a blessing

I started driving in 2015 and it was a lifesaver for me. The flexibility of driving Uber has allowed me to get my daughter to auditions. It has also allowed me to be very present in my daughters' life, involved in her schooling for performances she's in. I can drive in the mornings and then go pick her up from school, take her home, feed her and spend time with her and then go back out to work. It has given me freedom and flexibility, which allows for me to be the best Mom I can be to my daughter. My grandmother got sick and I was also able to be there for her. Allowing me to check on her, bring her food, stop by her place to write a check for her, meet up with the handyman, etc. The independence and the freedom from driving has been a blessing to my life!

I am a single mom and I had been struggling to make ends meet on a teacher's salary alone, until I began driving with a ride-sharing company. I drive almost every day after school when I have the energy, and I'm always looking forward to doing it. Driving has been a godsend opportunity because I am no longer stressing over choosing between paying bills, buying new clothes for the children or buying groceries. The flexibility of the Uber platform allowed me to not worry

I started driving for Uber 4.5 years ago. After losing my job in the declining print trade I started driving and found the flexible hours not only allowed me to make a living but spend more time with my rapidly growing children. Recently I was diagnosed with cancer. I needed surgery, chemo and numerous other appointments. Again the flexibility of the Uber platform allowed me to not worry about making appointments, I just worked around them. If I don't want to drive because of a doctor appt., I don't have to ask a boss if I can have time off, I just turn off my app. I don't want to have my right to work for extra money taken away. I love people and I love the freedom to be able to work when I want. This is such a great business for smart, happy senior citizens with good driving records to be able to supplement their retirement funds.
